What is travel insurance for trips to Georgia?

It is not just a formal document for crossing the border, but a real financial tool that protects your budget from unexpected expenses. There is no free healthcare for tourists in Georgia, and any visit to a doctor is charged at commercial rates for foreigners.

    Travel insurance protects you from:

    Emergency medical care:
Outpatient and inpatient treatment for sudden illnesses (including COVID-19).
    Medical transportation expenses:
Calling a private ambulance and transportation to a specialized clinic.
    Emergency dental care:
    Relief of acute toothache
    Repatriation:
Payment for return to your home country in case of serious health issues requiring transportation under medical supervision.

Why do you need travel insurance in Georgia?

Georgia is a country with amazing cuisine and nature, but the change of climate and water, as well as an active travel pace, create risks. Medical treatment for citizens of Uzbekistan in Georgia is paid and not free.

    Financial security

The bill for a simple appendectomy in a private clinic in Tbilisi can reach $2,000. Insurance costs less than a single meal in a restaurant and covers these expenses.

    Access to quality healthcare

We cooperate with leading clinic networks where qualified specialists work and modern equipment is available. The assistance service will direct you exactly to the facility where you will receive high-quality care.

    Compliance with entry rules

Although the law on compulsory insurance comes fully into force on 1 January 2026, the Georgian border service already has the right to check whether you have a policy.

How does travel insurance work? (Step-by-step guide)

We’ve made the assistance process as simple as possible so that you don’t have to stress in a difficult situation.

    1

    Policy purchase

Select your dates and choose the country “Georgia”. Pay with your UzCard/Humo/Visa card.

    2

    Activation

The policy becomes valid from the date stated in the document, starting from the moment you cross the border.

    3

    Insurance event

You feel unwell, get injured, or suddenly develop tooth pain.

    4

    Call the Assistance service

The most important step! Before visiting a doctor, call the number in your policy or tap SOS in the app.

    5

    Arranging medical help

The operator will select the nearest partner clinic and send a guarantee of payment letter there.

    6

    Treatment with no out-of-pocket costs

You receive medical care, and Euroasia pays the clinic’s bills. You go back to enjoying your trip.

    Important:

Going to a doctor on your own without calling the Assistance service first may result in a claim denial or in you having to pay for treatment on the spot with a long reimbursement process afterwards.

Travel insurance for a trip to Georgia

A policy from EUROASIA Insurance is your reliable protection against unforeseen medical expenses while travelling across hospitable Georgia. This country with ancient history and unique culture, where the majestic Caucasus Mountains meet the warm Black Sea coast, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for tourists from Uzbekistan.

Our insurance policy is valid throughout Georgia, including the capital Tbilisi, the seaside resort Batumi, the mountain regions of Kazbegi and Svaneti, as well as the wine region of Kakheti. The policy covers all key medical risks: emergency care, hospitalization, urgent dental treatment, as well as medical evacuation and repatriation. We take into account the cost of medical services in Georgia: a doctor’s consultation can cost from 50–100 lari ($18–30), and a hospital stay starts from 1,000 lari ($300), with prices often higher for foreign visitors.

With a EUROASIA Insurance policy, you can freely explore the old streets of Tbilisi, enjoy relaxing on the beaches of Batumi, conquer mountain peaks, taste famous Georgian wines, or discover ancient monasteries, knowing that in an unforeseen situation you will receive qualified medical assistance and all expenses will be covered by the insurance company. Protect yourself and your loved ones — get your policy online in just 3 minutes!

Health economics: Medical costs in Georgia

Many tourists mistakenly believe that healthcare in post-Soviet countries is cheap. In Georgia, this is not the case: the healthcare sector is almost entirely private and focused on commercial profitability.

Cost comparison with and without an EAI policy:

Service Price without insurance (GEL) Price without insurance (USD) With Euroasia policy
    Doctor consultation 70 – 150 ₾ $25 – $55 $0
    Food poisoning treatment (inpatient) 400 – 800 ₾ $150 – $300 $0
    Emergency dental care 200 – 450 ₾ $75 – $165 $0 (within limit)
    Appendicitis surgery 3,000 – 5,000 ₾ $1,100 – $1,800 $0
    Medical evacuation home — $5,000 – $40,000 $0

The data is based on the price lists of Evex and MediClub Georgia clinics.

How much does travel insurance to Georgia cost in 2025?

The cost of travel insurance to Georgia depends on several factors: the duration of the trip, the age of the travellers, the sum insured, and the selected additional options.

Prices for outbound travel insurance to the UAE for one week:

    Plan Price
ECONOMY plan (€20,000) from 40,000 UZS
CLASSIC plan (€60,000) from 76,000 UZS
EXCLUSIVE plan (€90,000) from 190,000 UZS
    STOPVIRUS 1 plan (€60,000 + COVID) from 95,000 UZS
    STOPVIRUS 2 plan (€90,000 + COVID) from 230,000 UZS

What does the price of travel insurance to Georgia depend on?

    Trip duration

The longer the trip, the higher the cost. The price is calculated for each day of stay.

    Sum insured

Policies with a higher sum insured cost more but provide better protection.

    Age

Higher rates apply for people over 65 and children under 1 year old.

    Activities

Sports and extreme activities increase the cost of the policy by 20–50%. Choose the trip purpose SPORT.

Important: Do not skimp on insurance! The difference in price between a basic and a premium policy can be as little as $5–25, but in case of a serious illness or injury it can save you thousands of dollars.

What travellers from Uzbekistan need to know: your safety guide

We have analysed hundreds of reviews and Georgian laws to create this honest guide for you. Georgia is a beautiful but challenging country. Here are the real risks you won’t find in glossy travel brochures.

    1

    Food safety: “Hidden” pork

    • Khinkali: Be careful! Classic khinkali are almost always made from a mix of beef and fatty pork (50/50). Ask for “Beef Khinkali” or with lamb, but keep in mind they are often boiled in a common broth.
    • Mtsvadi (shashlik): In Georgia, the benchmark is pork neck. Beef shashlik is often dry. Always clarify which meat is used.
    • Hidden ingredients: Dishes like “Ojahuri” (potatoes with meat) and “Kuchmachi” (offal) are in about 80% of cases made from pork.
    • Where to find halal options: In Tbilisi, look for places around Meidan Bazaar (near the mosque) or in the Turkish quarters on Agmashenebeli Avenue. In Batumi, there are even more halal options.
    2

    Traveller’s first-aid kit: Caution, prison!

    • Strict laws: Medicines that are sold freely in Uzbekistan can be considered narcotics in Georgia. The list of prohibited substances is huge.
    • Prohibited list: Medicines containing codeine (Pentalgin, Solpadeine, Nurofen Plus) and phenobarbital (Corvalol, Andipal) are banned from import without a special prescription.
    • Consequences: A single pack of “Pentalgin” may lead to arrest, a fine from 3,000 GEL and a criminal case for smuggling.
    • Tip: Leave your home first-aid kit at home. Buy safe alternatives (paracetamol, ibuprofen) locally.
    3

Roads and transport: not like in Tashkent

    • Animals on the road: A unique danger is cows sleeping on the warm asphalt, especially in tunnels and on mountain roads. Crashing into a cow at night is a common cause of serious accidents.
    • Driving style: Traffic in Tbilisi is chaotic, but the main danger is on intercity and mountain roads.
    • Taxis: Never get into a random taxi “at the curb” at the airport — you can easily be overcharged by 100–200 GEL. Use Yandex Go (your card will work) or Bolt.
    4

    Money: cards and cash

    • Uzbek cards: UzCard and Humo do not work in Georgia at all. Co-badged UnionPay cards are very unreliable.
    • Solution: Take a Visa/Mastercard (in USD) and cash US dollars with you.
    • Currency exchange: Do not exchange money at the airport (poor rate). It’s better to use exchange offices in the city.
    • Tips: A 10–15% service charge is often already included in the bill, but waiters still expect a small cash tip on top.

What to do in case of an insurance claim

A simple step-by-step guide to getting medical assistance in Georgia.

    1

    Call the assistance service

Call the phone number in your policy, available 24/7. The operator will:

    • Arrange a visit to a medical clinic
    • Coordinate expenses with the insurance company

Important: Call before visiting a doctor! Self-initiated treatment may not be covered by the insurance.

    2

    Present your documents

    At the clinic, present:

    • Your insurance policy and passport
    • The case number provided by the operator
    3

    Receive medical care

You will receive the necessary medical assistance:

    • Consultation and diagnostics
    • Treatment and medication

You do not pay: all expenses within the policy limits are covered by the insurance company.

    4

    Keep all documents

If you have to pay yourself in an emergency, keep:

    • Receipts and invoices
    • Medical reports and prescriptions

These documents are required for reimbursement of your expenses.

    5

    Submit a reimbursement claim

    After you return to Uzbekistan:

    1. Fill out a reimbursement claim form
    2. Attach all receipts and medical documents

The reimbursement will be processed within 10–15 working days.

    Key points

    • Key rule: always call the assistance service first.
    • Keep your policy and passport with you.
    • Save all receipts and medical documents.

Young and Healthy? Why Health Insurance Still Matters

Feeling invincible when you’re young is natural, but illness and accidents can strike. Health insurance in Uzbekistan gives a vital safety net and support.

Frequently Asked Questions about Insurance in Georgia

      • No, you can stay in the country for up to 1 year without a visa.

      • The introduction of the mandatory insurance law has been postponed until 1 January 2026. However, border officers are entitled to ask for a policy as proof of financial means. We recommend having it to avoid problems at the border.

      • No. The territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia are not controlled by the Georgian authorities and are excluded areas for all international insurance companies.

      • No. This is one of the most important rules. According to clause 6.1.16 of the insurance terms, any injuries or illnesses sustained while under the influence of alcohol (even mild) are not considered an insured event. If a doctor detects alcohol in your blood, the claim will be denied.

      • Not under the basic insurance. Clause 6.1.24 excludes amateur sports, including winter sports (skiing, snowboarding), diving, rafting and mountain trips (mountaineering/trekking). For these purposes, you must select SPORT as the trip purpose when buying the policy; otherwise you will have to pay for treatment of injuries yourself.

      • Yes, but only for emergency care. The policy covers relief of acute tooth pain or tooth extraction (clause 5.1.2). Treatment of caries, non-emergency fillings or prosthetics are not included in the insurance (clause 6.2.4). Dentistry in Georgia is relatively inexpensive, but quality treatment of pulpitis (X-ray + anaesthesia + nerve removal + canal cleaning + filling) can cost from 150 to 400 GEL and more (€50–130). Conclusion: In Georgia you will most likely stay within the limit of €200–300 per tooth. Step-by-step guide to avoid paying yourself: Don’t just start treatment! First call the assistance service (numbers are in the policy). Say: “I have acute pain, I need emergency care.” Agree the procedure. When the doctor says “we need to remove the nerve”, they (or you) should call the insurer and confirm that this is emergency pain relief, not planned caries treatment. Clarify the filling. Ask the assistance service: “Will you pay for a permanent filling or only a temporary one?” They often allow a simple permanent filling (cement/chemical) if it fits within the €200 limit. Summary: Nerve removal will be paid as a way to relieve acute pain. The filling will most likely be temporary or simple. The main thing is to make sure the clinic bill does not exceed €200–300 (depending on your plan).

      • Unfortunately, no. The insurance is designed only for sudden illnesses. Treatment of chronic diseases, even if they worsen during the trip, is on the list of exclusions (clause 6.1.5).

      • Your phone is enough. The contract is concluded in electronic form (clause 4.1). After payment you will receive a PDF file of the policy. We recommend installing the app or saving the policy on your phone so that the policy number and assistance phone numbers are at hand even without internet access.

      • Call first! Under the rules (clause 11.1), you must immediately contact the Assistance Service using the contacts in the policy. The operator will tell you which clinic to go to. If you go to a doctor on your own, the insurer has the right to deny payment or demand serious proof that the treatment was necessary.

      • No. Any events related to pregnancy, childbirth and their complications are not considered insured events (clause 6.1.10).

      • Only under special programs. Pay attention to the “STOPVIRUS 1” and “STOPVIRUS 2” plans (Appendix No. 1). In the “Economy” and “Classic” programs, COVID coverage may be absent or limited. Check the selected package before payment.

      • Yes. If you notify us of cancellation before the policy start date, you will receive a 100% refund of the premium. If the trip falls through after the policy has started (but you did not travel), the refund will be proportional for the unused days (clause 14.3).

      • Usually the doctor issues a prescription, you buy the medicine at your own expense, and after you return the insurance company reimburses the costs. Important: be sure to keep the doctor’s prescription with a stamp and the pharmacy receipt with the names of the medicines (clause 11.5.1). Without a prescription, the cost of medicines will not be refunded.
