    How does travel insurance work?

Understanding how travel insurance works helps you use your policy effectively during the trip. The process is simple and clear:

    1

    Policy purchase

You choose an insurance program, enter your trip dates and pay for the policy online. The policy appears in the app within a few minutes.

    2

    Coverage start

Insurance coverage starts from the trip start date specified in the policy. It’s important to buy the policy before leaving your country.

    3

    Insurance event

If you have a health problem, you call the assistance service using the number in your policy. The service is available 24/7.

    4

    Arranging assistance

The operator arranges medical assistance: directs you to a clinic or calls a doctor or ambulance.

    5

    Payment for services

The insurance company pays the medical expenses directly to the clinic. You don’t have to spend your own money.

    6

    Return home

After treatment is complete, you continue your trip or return home. The policy remains valid until the end date specified in it.

Important things to know about how insurance works:

    • Always call the assistance service before going to a clinic (except in life-threatening emergencies).
    • Keep all documents: bills, medical reports, prescriptions for possible reimbursement.
    • Always have your policy number with you: store it in your phone.
    • Do not engage in extreme sports without adding the appropriate option to your policy.

Travelling in Russia: a view of a city with historic architecture and a river on a sunny day.

Your guide to Russia: what tourists from Uzbekistan should know

Russia is not only Moscow and Saint Petersburg. It’s a huge country with different climates, its own culture, rules and nuances that are better to know in advance. Below are practical tips without “tourist brochures” that will help make your trip comfortable and safe.

View of the embankment and historic buildings in the center of Moscow or Saint Petersburg
    1

    Money: rubles, dollars and cards

    • Main currency is the Russian ruble: you can’t pay with Uzbek sums in Russia, take US dollars or already exchanged rubles.
    • It’s better to bring cash USD/EUR: notes in good condition, without heavy damage. They can be exchanged at official exchange offices and banks.
    • Bank cards: Visa/Mastercard cards don’t work everywhere and depend on the issuing bank. Check with your bank in advance whether your card will be serviced in Russia.
    • Cash is still important: especially in smaller cities, markets, taxis and private services.
    2

Mobile connection and internet: how to stay online

    • Roaming can be expensive: roaming tariffs of Uzbek operators are much higher than regular ones.
    • Local SIM is more convenient: at the airport or in the city you can buy a SIM card from Russian operators with data and minutes packages.
    • Messengers and calls: WhatsApp, Telegram and other apps usually work stably, but it’s better to have a backup way to communicate (SMS, regular calls).
    • Time zones: between different regions of Russia and Tashkent there may be several hours’ difference — keep this in mind for calls and bookings.
    3

Clothing and respect: churches, museums and public places

    • In Orthodox churches: it’s not appropriate to enter in very revealing clothes, behave loudly or take intrusive photos. Women are recommended to have a headscarf and clothes that cover the shoulders.
    • In museums and theatres: comfortable, neat clothes are fine. For evening performances, aim for smart casual.
    • Everyday life: regular city clothes according to the season are suitable — the main thing is to feel comfortable and not look overly provocative.
    • Winter and shoulder season: in central Russia and especially in the north it can be very cold — you’ll need a warm coat, gloves, hat and comfortable non-slip shoes.
    4

What you definitely shouldn’t do in Russia

    • Break the law “just a little”: drinking alcohol in public places, minor hooliganism and noise can result in fines or being taken to the police.
    • Join unauthorized rallies and protests: this is especially risky for foreigners and can lead to deportation.
    • Photograph “sensitive” sites: it’s better not to take close-up photos of military sites, some government buildings and infrastructure.
    • Ignore traffic rules: even as a pedestrian — fines and cameras are widely used.
    • Violate stay regulations: overdue registration or exceeding the allowed stay can cause serious problems when leaving the country and with future trips.
    5

    Entry, registration and documents

    • Passport: must be valid for the entire period of your trip. Keep copies of the passport on your phone and in the cloud.
    • Length of stay: citizens of Uzbekistan can stay in Russia without a visa for a limited period. Check the current rules before your trip.
    • Registration at place of stay: for longer trips hotels usually handle it, and if you stay with friends or relatives — clarify how to correctly arrange registration.
    • Insurance policy: medical expenses in Russia can be significant. Insurance helps avoid unexpected costs and get help without delays.
    6

    Health and safety

    • Climate: winters can be very cold and summers quite hot. Dress according to the season and check the weather in advance.
    • Water and food: in large cities tap water is usually safe, but many people feel more comfortable drinking bottled water. Choose reputable cafés and avoid dubious places.
    • Personal belongings: in crowded places keep an eye on your bag, wallet and documents, especially in the metro and at railway stations.
    • First-aid kit: bring the basic medicines you’re used to — this will save time and help avoid language-barrier issues in pharmacies.

Frequently asked questions about insurance for trips to Russia

      • For citizens of Uzbekistan, medical insurance is generally not a mandatory requirement for entering Russia for short-term visits. However, we strongly recommend purchasing a policy, as medical services in Russia are paid and can be expensive for foreign visitors. Having insurance gives you peace of mind and financial protection during your trip.

      • Yes, all our insurance policies include coverage for expenses related to viral diseases, including COVID-19. This may include diagnostics, treatment, and hospitalization within the terms of the selected program. We understand how important this coverage is when traveling abroad.

      • Immediately contact our 24/7 assistance service using the phone number indicated in your policy. The operator will arrange medical assistance and direct you to an appropriate clinic. Do not go to medical facilities on your own without coordinating with the insurance company, unless it is a life-threatening emergency.

      • If you visit a medical facility following directions from the assistance service, expenses are usually paid directly by the insurance company. You do not need to use your own money. However, if you go to a clinic on your own, you may have to pay on the spot and then request reimbursement by providing the necessary documents. That’s why it’s better to contact the assistance service in advance (except in emergency situations).

      • Yes, our company allows you to purchase a policy even after your trip has started. However, please note that the policy comes into force after a certain waiting period (usually 24–48 hours), and events that occurred before the policy was purchased are not covered.

      • For a trip to Russia, we recommend choosing a coverage amount that includes outpatient treatment, diagnostics, and possible hospitalization. In most cases, coverage from $30,000 and above is optimal. If you plan a longer stay, active leisure, or trips to remote regions, it makes sense to consider higher coverage amounts ($50,000 or $90,000) for extra confidence.

      • The basic policy covers standard tourist activities. For higher-risk types of leisure (skiing, snowmobiles, active mountain tours, etc.) we recommend choosing a policy with the “SPORT/ACTIVE LEISURE” option. This option increases the cost of the policy but provides extended coverage for such risks.

      • The electronic policy has full legal force and can be presented on your phone or tablet. However, we recommend printing the policy or saving it in several places (phone, email, cloud storage) in case your device runs out of battery or there is no internet connection. A paper copy may also be useful for formal procedures.
