Why buy a policy before you travel?

If you need urgent care in Hungary, your cover limits and the claims process will matter. Choose a plan that fits your route, and keep the assistance number handy.

    Cover limits and conditions

The policy covers eligible costs for sudden illness or injury, subject to limits and exclusions. How the bill is paid depends on the circumstances.

    Help from the assistance service

The 24/7 team can explain what to do and help arrange medical care. If you cannot contact them before seeking care, report the incident as soon as you can.

    Terms you can check

Before buying, check the dates, coverage area, medical sublimit and any optional cover. Sports and adventure activities need the relevant option shown on your policy.

    Your policy on your phone

Download the EUROASIA Insurance app to keep your policy and policy number on your phone. Save a separate offline copy so you can find it without a connection.

    How does travel insurance work?

Six steps from choosing a plan to getting help. Check the dates, limits and exclusions on the policy you receive.

    1

    Choose a plan

Enter Hungary, your travel dates and each traveller’s details in the calculator. Compare plans and save the policy you receive.

    2

    Check when cover starts

Cover applies on the dates shown in your policy. If you buy the policy after leaving the country, cover starts at 00:00 on the fourth day following the issue date.

    3

    Contact the assistance service

If you suddenly become ill or are injured, call the 24/7 number on your policy. Give your policy number and your location.

    4

    Follow their guidance

The team will tell you where to go and coordinate care under your policy. In an emergency, if you cannot call first, contact them as soon as you can.

    5

    Keep your documents

The insurer may pay for approved services through the assistance service or reimburse documented costs. Keep bills, prescriptions, receipts and medical records.

    6

    Check your policy period

After you return, check your documents and the deadline for claiming reimbursement if you paid yourself. Cover is limited by the dates and terms of your policy.

    Good to remember

    • Contact the assistance service before visiting a clinic if you can.
    • If you pay yourself, keep original bills, receipts, prescriptions and your discharge summary.
    • Keep your policy number and the assistance phone number accessible throughout your trip.
    • Sports and adventure activities need an additional option on your policy.

    Travel insurance for Hungary

A trip through Hungary can take in Budapest on the Danube, Lake Balaton, Eger and Pécs. If your route crosses Schengen borders, check the policy’s coverage area before buying.

Hungary is within the coverage area of EUROASIA CLASSIC, ELITE and EXCLUSIVE. If you become suddenly ill or are injured, the care and reimbursement available depend on your plan; medical services have a separate limit.

You can get a quote online. For a visa, the country name and overall insured amount are not enough: check the medical limit, actual coverage dates and consular requirements. Learn more about travel insurance.

What insurance do you need for a Hungarian visa?

As of October 2026, Uzbek citizens travelling on an ordinary passport need a short-stay Schengen C visa for a tourist trip to Hungary. VFS Global accepts applications; the Hungarian authorities make the decision. Check the current document list before applying.

    Embassy requirements for medical insurance

    • Coverage area All Schengen countries
    • Medical cover At least €30,000
    • Policy period Your trip plus 15 calendar days
    • Emergency care Including hospital treatment
    • Return home Medical repatriation
    • Certificate Check the issued dates and terms
    • Application Through VFS Global

These are insurance certificate requirements for a visa application. They do not establish that any EUROASIA plan qualifies. The competent authorities decide whether to accept the documents and issue a visa.

What should you check before applying?

Compare the embassy’s requirements with the policy actually issued to you:

    • Medical limit: check the separate medical services sublimit, not just the overall insured amount.
    • Coverage dates: the embassy asks for your trip plus 15 days. Under offer clause 8.4.4, the additional 15 days are not insured unless the offer expressly provides otherwise.
    • Coverage area: your certificate must include every Schengen country.
    • Services covered: check emergency treatment, hospitalisation and repatriation under your plan.
    • Certificate acceptance: ask the insurer and the visa centre whether the certificate you received meets the requirements.

Which plans are available for Hungary?

The Hungary calculator offers CLASSIC, ELITE and EXCLUSIVE. Each has an overall insured amount and a separate medical services sublimit. The price is calculated from your trip details.

    Plan limits at a glance

Plan Overall insured amount Medical services
    CLASSIC €45,000 up to €18,000
    ELITE €60,000 up to €35,000
    EXCLUSIVE €90,000 up to €45,000

Limits are in euros under the current EUROASIA offer. The price depends on the details you enter and the plan you choose.

    What affects the price?

    Travel dates

Enter your full route and exact dates; check when cover starts and ends on your policy.

    Plan

Your chosen plan sets the limits and scope of cover.

    Age

Enter each traveller’s age for a quote.

    Activities

Sports and adventure activities need an additional option; check this when getting a quote.

For a visa, do not rely on the overall amount alone: CLASSIC has an €18,000 medical sublimit even though its overall insured amount is €45,000. ELITE and EXCLUSIVE have higher medical limits, but those limits alone do not establish visa compliance. Check the actual dates, coverage area, terms and issued certificate.

Where should you go in Hungary?

Plan for the season: Budapest and the Danube, Lake Balaton and historic towns. Before you leave, compare your route with the coverage area and dates on your policy.

    Budapest and the Danube

Walk both banks of the Danube and explore the historic districts. Budapest is also known for its thermal baths; check each venue’s rules before visiting.

    Lake Balaton

In summer, the lake is a place to relax by the water and explore nearby villages. The region can be part of your route outside the summer season too.

    Eger

Eger brings together Baroque architecture, wine routes and nearby hills. It works well as a separate stop on your trip.

    Pécs

Visit Pécs for its architecture, art and the surrounding region. Allow time for travel between cities in your itinerary.

    Choosing a season

Summer is the season for swimming in Lake Balaton; autumn suits city breaks and cultural trips. Check the weather and opening times for specific places before you leave.

    Thermal baths and insurance

Visiting a thermal bath does not, by itself, exclude insurance cover. The offer excludes planned spa or sanatorium treatment and preventive procedures; a sudden injury is assessed under the policy terms.

    Before you go

    • Check your visa’s validity and permitted number of entries on the issued document.

    • Save both a digital copy and an offline copy of your policy.

    • Write down the assistance number from your policy somewhere other than your phone.

    • Check that every country on your route is within your policy’s coverage area.

    • For water sports and other activities, check whether you need the “sports/adventure activities” option.

    • Planned spa treatment is not emergency medical care.

    • Check visitor rules for the places you plan to see before your trip.

What should you do if you need medical help in Hungary?

Follow your policy instructions and keep your documents. They will help the insurer arrange care or verify your costs.

    1

    Call the assistance service

If possible, call the 24/7 number on your policy before visiting a clinic. If you need emergency care and cannot call first, report the incident as soon as you can.

    2

    Share the details

Give your policy number, name, location and what happened. Ask the operator what to do next and which documents to keep.

    3

    Follow the instructions

Follow the agreed steps and keep bills, receipts and medical records. Under your policy, the insurer may pay through the assistance service or reimburse documented costs.
